For business owners, a new year comes with a variety of positives but also challenges. While everyone makes resolutions about weight loss and personal development, we business owners are thinking about marketing, sales, taxes, scaling our business and tons more.

With all the items on your to-do list, why not take one off. Here are some ways you can harness your journey and turn it into content for your business.

1. Share pictures and videos from workshops, training, networking, meetings and other events you attend.

Every time you step out of the house you have an opportunity to create content. Always have your phone with you to take pictures and videos. They can even be used at a later point in time if you don’t have time to share right away.

Now, I can hear some objections already. If you are worried about looking a certain way or being perceived a certain way, you have two choices, either make sure you are presentable OR go with 100% authenticity. I’m not going to tell you one way is better than the other. That is up to your personal preference. I will say that everyone is more critical about themselves than others are about them.

2. Write down everything you do in a day and take that information and turn it into content

If you stop to think about what you do every day, you have so many content opportunities. Maybe you put the finishing touches on a course you are unveiling. Maybe you started working with someone new or hired an employee. Perhaps you had a wonderful lunch at a new local business. Maybe when you were reading a new book, you got a fantastic idea. Do this for a week and I guarantee you will have so much content you won’t know what to do with it all.

3. Share some personal information about your life but keep it classy, no oversharing

I have seen this work fabulously and not so well. The key is sharing but sharing subtly. For example, on the weekend, I spent time at an XYZ conference. I learned a lot, and the things I learned will be a great addition to my business offerings.

Versus, this past weekend, I was at XYZ conference. Traffic was brutal on the way down and I could barely get a parking spot. Then I was sick because of bad sushi. I had to sit next to a lady who talked the whole time, but I learned a lot of things that will be great for my business.

I think you get what I’m hinting at here. Think overview, not moment to moment, unless it provides value.

4. Use one piece of content multiple ways – Photo, blog, video, audio

I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it. If you are going to spend time creating something for one medium why not produce the same content in another medium. You can share it in different ways and different places, giving you more content and appealing to a broader audience. Not everyone likes to read or maybe they can’t watch a video when they see your content. Give people the option to experience your content the way they want.

The objection here might be, “There’s no way I have time to turn one piece of content into four!” If that’s the case, less is more. Great content posted less frequently beats out a terrible piece of content published more often! I will also point out that phone apps make sharing content more effortless than ever.

5. COMMENT ON OTHER PEOPLE’s CONTENT to build relationships

Harness the power of commenting on other people’s journey’s. Your entire marketing strategy can be conversing with other people online and not creating a single piece of traditional content. You may not believe it, but it’s true. It’s called a visibility strategy. What it does is make people go, oh my goodness, this person is everywhere, I should check them out. Or it might make people go; I really like this person’s ideas and thought processes. I should meet up with them offline.

For this to work, you do need somewhere for people to learn more about you. Be sure you have fantastic profile pages across social media and a decent website.

If you need help with your content, I am happy to train you on the options. I will also be holding various workshops throughout the year. Let’s make 2020 a year of fantastic content!
